| Friday running was a little confusing really with a number of big names not able to make the top ten. Kimi Raikkonen however did, as he topped both sessions for Ferrari, his best time being 1:20.649s. Felipe Massa was second fastest in the morning and fifth in the afternoon. |

| Nelson Piquet and Fernando Alonso were second and third fastest in the afternoon session for Renault but while the team may have made gains, it is unlikely that the positions will be replicate when it counts. |
